Travel Diary: Golfo di Orosei

« Life in Sardinia is maybe the best a man can hope for: twenty-four thousand miles of forests, of countryside, of coasts surrounded by a miraculous sea should coincide with what I would recommend the good God to give us as paradise. »

Fabrizio De Andrè, Italian poet and musician

Where is Orosei located

Orosei, set in the Valley of the River Cedrino, lies on the central eastern coast of Sardinia. It is best-known for its golden sandy beaches with crystal-clear sea.

What Not to Miss

From the town’s small port, each day sea excursions will take you to discover the Gulf and the beaches that can only be reached by boat. Make sure to visit the following: Grotta del Blue Marino (Buy the tour into the grotta: € 10 adults/ €5 children) Cala Luna and Cala Mariolu.

TIP: If you have the opportunity to do a photoshoot with the photographer onboard of the vessel, do it! It’s totally worth it to take home the amazing postcards pictures that you can post in your instagram. Check out my Instagram to see some of those pictures.

What to See in Centro Historico

When it’s time for an evening stroll, there’s plenty to choose from: no less than seventeen churches including the Church of Santo Antonio where they do a yearly bonfire on the day of the saint, a Pisan watch tower, the Nuraghic ruins of Rampinu e Sa Linnarta, Sa Prejone Vetza, the town’s old prison.

When to Visit

Summer is the ideal period for an experience linked to sea and the beaches. July and August are the hottest months and those preferred by tourists and visitors, whereas June and September are ideal for those looking for a quieter beach holiday.

What to Pack

Sunscreen is a must, comfortable shoes for walking the old town, a nice hat, your phone or camera to take amazing postcard like pictures, and since some of the beaches are rocky, I highly recommend water shoes

Traveling with Family

We stayed at Marina Beach Resort from the ITI Hotels Group a family friendly all inclusive 4 star resort with beach access, the biggest pool in Italy, amazing facilities and fun for everyone. The twins were able to roam freely and participate in the many activities the hotel had to offer including a Mini Club/Camp for kids! Make sure to check them out.
